Nicky Schwanz

Nicky grew up in Fort Wayne where she graduated from South Side High School, then began her undergraduate work at Indiana Tech. Over the course of her Sophomore year she recognized her true passions lay elsewhere and her future included caring for childbearing women. She began her journey down the path to midwifery.  Nicky transferred to the University of Saint Francis where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. After spending her first year as a nurse on the medical unit she transferred to the labor and delivery unit. She spent four and a half years working as a labor nurse assisting countless women with their motherhood transformations, before deciding it was time to follow her dreams and returned to school to become a nurse midwife.
In 2018 Nicky earned a Master’s of Science in Nurse Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University, and dove into working as a midwife in a hospital based practice in Elkhart, Indiana. Although she and her family remained rooted in Fort Wayne, the commute allowed her to broaden her horizons and provided invaluable experience as a new midwife. Nicky has always found a strong foundation in her family and met her husband, Corey, in 2005. Corey is an avid hunter and works as a customer service technician for a bullet manufacturer. They were married in 2012 and eager to start a family. Together they have three children; Cody was born in 2013 with Dr. Stroud, Brandon in 2015 under the care of the Fertility and Midwifery Care Center, and Reagan in 2020 at Holy Family Birth Center with Marianne. Her experiences as a birthing mother have helped her grow both personally and professionally in a way no college course could ever teach.
Nicky is passionate about maintaining a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy whenever possible. Nicky and Corey share a love for fitness and are active members of a local CrossFit affiliate on a daily and competitive level. She remained active as a CrossFit athlete through her pregnancies and advocates for others by working towards certification as a pregnancy and postpartum athleticism coach. Nicky is also certified in the use of K-Tape for women’s health. Nicky hopes to help women achieve wellness through pregnancy and guide them through postpartum recovery in a way that lets women experience the miracle of childbirth and feel confident in what their body can accomplish.

Nicky considers the opportunity to join the Fertility and Midwifery Care Center a blessing and an incredible opportunity. She is excited to join this amazing group of practitioners and is delighted to be able to care for women in and around her hometown as they grow their families.
