All grief is valid. But it is one of the most complex human emotions, so understanding grief can be challenging. Every person experiences grief, but it looks different for each person and with each experience. It’s a difficult part of the work we do at Fertility and Midwifery Care Center and Holy Family Birth Center.

On our latest episode of All Things Women’s Health, Dr. Chris Stroud talks with clinical counselor Edward Luersman about the complexities of grief, especially when it comes from infertility and pregnancy loss. Edward shares about his own experience of infertility and how it inspired him to become a counselor specializing in the grief couples experience with infertility and pregnancy loss.

Dr. Stroud and Edward delve into how men and women experience these losses differently and how couples can navigate those differences to avoid feelings of estrangement and instead become stronger together. They discuss how to recognize and understand feelings of grief as they arise, even when they might look or feel different from what we expect. And they share coping strategies for understanding grief, engaging with the feelings and physical responses, and moving toward pathways to healing.
