Tonya Fenzl

Certified Nurse Midwife

Originally from Fort Wayne, and a graduate from Carroll High School, after college I found my way to Ohio and Florida.  Working as a nurse in labor and delivery for almost 20 years, I learned so much about women, family, and birth. Recognizing an opportunity for growth, I went back to school at Frontier Nursing University, earning a master’s degree in nurse-midwifery.

I love what I do.  My passion for midwifery has led me on many mission trips to Haiti and a month spent in Somalia with Edna Adan, where I provided education on midwifery care and care for children. I also traveled to Dubai as the keynote speaker for the International Midwifery Conference where I presented my research, “Can We Get Back to the Basics of Midwifery?” As an extension of my care for expecting mothers, I wrote a guidebook for expectant fathers called “NFL Behind: No Father Left Behind”.  I have also served the community by being on committees to bringing awareness to Human Trafficking and providing care to victims.

My love for family extends beyond midwifery: I have 3 “babies” of my own (Molly, Eric, and Andrew), plus 3 “bonus” children (Colin, Hannah, and Levi), who are all now adults.  I also recently adopted a sibling group of 4 kids, James, Jalaina, Jazelle, and Jace.  Our family is blessed to have 2 grandchildren as well, Eleanor and Emmett.

Outside of work, I enjoy growing my own food, spending time with family, camping, puzzles, politics, and baking. I am proud to be settled back home in Fort Wayne and working beside the amazing group here at FMCC!
